Astilbe Arendsii: Amethyst (False Spirea) 28-32” Clumps of fern-like foliage with upright, plume-like flower stalks. Garden Astilbe are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This selection has long, feathery plumes of deep lavender-mauve flowers, over a mound of elegant, lacy green leaves. Also thrives in tubs, or mixed containers. Fertilize in April and June. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. Will tolerate full sun, in cool summer regions, but prefers partial shade. Blooms early to mid-summer Attractive to butterflies., deer resistant. Zones 3-9.
